Comments: I've always loved stories about lovers who's fates force them to earn their happiness (if they ever manage it, I know I'm horrible). What I especially like about the stories of most star-crossed lovers in Asian folk tales is that there's usually so much history involved. These stories tell you so much about the people of the time when they were first created.
Possible Stories: One possible story that I've read and adore is the story of Ching Yuh and Kyain Oo: The Trials of Two Heavenly Lovers. I think this story is beautiful and so wonderfully rich in history and culture. I know that there are many similar stories in Chinese and Japanese folk lore as well and am excited to read them.

Topic: Pansori Stories
Comments: Pansori (판소리) is a tradition of storytelling that I was introduced to in Korea. It is a very old and beautiful type of storytelling that generally involves a singer (소리꾼: sorikkun) and a drummer (고수: gosu) who plays a traditional barrel drum called a book (북). The name of the style even means 'pan' (판) "a place where people gather" and 'sori' (소리) which means "sound".
Possible Stories: Sim Chung: The Dutiful Daughter is one, but there are five main pansori stories that have survived to the modern era.

Topic: 'Lost Boy' type characters
Comments: As I posted before, Hong Gil Dong (홍길동) one of my favorite folk tales of all time. He's one of those robin hood / lost boys type of character. He's a character who appears in many different tales and even today in modern Korea Hong Gil Dong is their version of "John Doe". iiIt's that common! There have been tv shows, plays, and movies about him! Many cultures have a character like this and I'm sure that if I look I'll find one in many Asian cultures.

Topic: Women of Historical Asia
Comments: Women throughout the history were considered more as objects than people in many ways, just as in the history of western culture. Even so, there are a decent amount of tales and stories that either spoke of the virtues of great women, the cunning and deviousness of some, and many of the loyalty and love that women were capable of. These stories are interesting and teach a lot about the culture, both present and past, of these Asian countries.
Possible Stories: The Resourceful Wife / The Favorite of Fortune and the Child of Ill Luck
